“Just… be normal,” Mark muttered under his breath as he walked down the crowded street. The wallet, tucked beneath his belt, was a weight against his stomach. He kept his head down, avoiding eye contact with anyone. Every passing face seemed to scrutinize him.

The street musicians played a lively tune, but all he heard was a frantic, internal drumbeat. He clutched his briefcase tighter, even though it was empty. He felt exposed, vulnerable, as if everyone could see the secret he carried.

He kept glancing over his shoulder. He felt like he was being followed, or about to be arrested.
